Hi, my name is
Andrew Newell and I have been a member of
the U.S. Ski Team for the past 5 years. I
spend my winters traveling the globe, chasing
the snow, and competing in cross-country
skiing World Cups. I was immersed in the
rich Nordic skiing culture of Vermont at
a young age and started racing through the
woods by age 5. With dreams of Olympic medals
already starting to form in my mind I attended
the Stratton Mountain Ski School until I
was named to the US development team during
my senior year.
Cross-country
ski training for me is a full time job,
but that doesn’t mean there isn’t
time to kick back in Vermont. When I’m
not putting in the work out hours I’m
skateboarding bowls, chasing the surf,
making ski films, going big on my skinny
skis, and basically just enjoying winter
chaos.
The sport of cross-country skiing has
grown so much in the past 5 years it has
been really amazing to be a part of it.
In a European dominated sport we Americans
are definitely the under dogs but have
been gaining momentum every year scoring
podiums and even World Cup wins. With the
Vancouver Olympic Games just two seasons
away the energy on the team is electric
and I don’t think anything can stand
in our way. Thanks to everyone who has
supported us over the years and to everyone
who will continue to cheer us on as we
fight for medals in 2010!

Why I Chose Right to
Play For My Charity
No matter what country you are from every child
deserves the right smile, the right to be active,
and the right to play. That’s why I support
the Right to Play foundation. Right to Play
is an international humanitarian organization
that uses sport and play programs to improve
heath, develop life skills, and foster peace
for children in some of the most disadvantaged
areas of the world. As professional skiers
it can be hard to realize that there is more
to life than hitting the pow, but whether you
live in the mountains or in the heart of Africa
every kid has the Right to Play.
