Kikkan Randall
was born in Salt Lake City, UT while her
mother was attending law School at the University
of Utah. Soon after her birth the family
returned back to Alaska. In high school she
was a star runner and used cross-country
skiing to continue her training in the winter.
Soon she discovered her passion on snow was
more than just off season training, she went
on to become one of the top U.S. Junior racers. “It’s
in my blood” she always says, this
because she is the niece |
of
two Olympians. Her Uncle Chris Haines was
a ’76 cross-country skier and her
Aunt Betsy Haines was the first racer on-course
in the 1980 5K. She has a full plate most
of the time with training for cross-country
skiing mixed in with obtaining her business
degree at the Alaska Pacific University.
Since skiing on the U.S. Cross-Country Team
she has made history. On Dec. 16, 2007 she
became the first American woman to win a
World Cup, capturing a freestyle sprint in
Rybinsk, Russia, coincidentally the same
venue where she became the first U.S. woman
to reach a World Cup podium!! She has also
recently tried to broaden her races to reach
outside of the sprinting events. She knows
that it will take years to become a contender
at distance racing as well, but she is trying
to be patient. Not an easy thing to do, when
she is having such success at sprinting!
In June of 2008, Randall hit another lifetime
high when she tied the knot with Canadian
ski racer Jeff Ellis.
She's already got the best Olympic and World
Cup results by an American woman. And, really,
she's just getting started. Look for her
in the upcoming season as a major contender
for the top spot on the podium, and of course
for the Gold Medal in the next Olympics in
Vancouver 2010!! |

Why I Chose Fast And
Female For My Charity
Fast and Female is the charity I choose to
support because I believe wholeheartedly in
their mission of empowerment through sport.
F&F is about getting more girls on skis,
and about building confidence in young girls
and women, and showing them how much they have
to gain from sport and a healthy, active lifestyle.
It’s also about teaching girls it’s
cool to be fast and it’s cool to be female!
Having experienced the benefits of living a
healthy, active lifestyle first hand, I am
excited to team up with an organization that
is working to make a difference in the state
of fitness among today’s kids.
